Pharmacy Awareness Week this year is on March 1 to 6. This occasion highlights pharmacists’ role in healthcare and the services they provide to help improve the health and well being of their customers.
We always recommend keeping an open dialogue with your pharmacist. If you are beginning a new drug and experience vision problems, dizziness or perhaps fuzziness of thought, share your experiences with us. It may be due to a side effect of the new drug and we can advise you as to what’s best to do.
Vitamin D was one of the most talked about vitamin during the past year. The feeling is that we are not getting enough in our diet and need to supplement. The latest idea is that adequate vitamin D can reduce the risk of falls in the elderly by taking a 1000 unit supplement daily. Not bad insurance.
It’s to know our blood pressure and the consequences that can result if it’s too high. Blood pressure readings consist of two numbers. The first (upper) number is called systolic and is the pressure in the arteries on each heartbeat. The lower number called diastolic and represents the pressure between beats.
Taking your blood pressure at home is part of taking charge of your health. Our pharmacists can help advise you about blood pressure monitors and answer any questions you may have about this important subject.
