People are buying almost everything on-line these days but Health Canada warns that buying your drugs on-line may not be a good idea. Counterfeit drugs abound and you never know if you are getting the real thing. There are reliable on-line pharmacies but before you buy, be sure the pharmacy has a street address so you know where they are. Don’t buy products that have not been approved in Canada.
Some medical advice just never goes out of style. Back in about 420 BC, Hipprocates, the father of medicine said something like this: if we give everyone the right amount of nourishment and exercise, the road to good health is assured. (The more things change, the more they stay the same.)
Some oral diabetic medications can affect vitamin B-12 levels in the body that could lead to nerve damage in the feet and hands. It’s good to have your B-12 levels checked while on these medications so that anemia doesn’t develop. Taking 1000mcg of B-12 orally or getting a monthly B-12 shot will alleviate the problem.
Speaking of diabetes, some exciting news came out during the summer where scientists stimulated immature cells in the pancreas to produce more beta cells that produce insulin. The long-range hope is that a diagnosis of Type I diabetes can be treated with a pill without the need to inject insulin. It’s early stages on this one.
Our pharmacists can tell you if your diabetic medication may cause this problem. It’s all part of the excellent care provided by our professional staff.
