Not everyone is a cat lover but it has been found that those who have a pet cat seem to be able to weather life’s bad times better than those who don’t have a cat. Cat-owners appear to suffer from fewer headaches, are less likely to get the flu and are generally more relaxed than non-cat people.

Vaccines do help protect children against disease. There are some who feel it’s not good to give a child too many vaccines because it might “overload their immune system”. Children and adults are exposed to so many pollens, viruses, and bacteria in our environment every day. Many of these trigger our immune systems. The small amount of antibody-triggers in vaccines is very small in comparison.

Colds are common at this time of year. Although we don’t want to be running to the doctor for every little infection, it is important to know that if a cold lasts longer than 7 days and seems to be getting worse, see your doctor. There may be something else going on that needs medical attention.

As the temperatures drop with the approaching winter months, be aware that there appears to be a relationship between outdoor temperature and blood pressure especially in the elderly. Blood pressures seem to rise in colder weather. If you have high blood pressure, it is a good idea to monitor it regularly and keep a record of the results for your doctor.

Don’t have blood pressure monitoring kit? Drop into our pharmacy and we can show you some units that are accurate and easy-to-use.
