We hear much about A.S.A. (Aspirin®) and its ability to prevent strokes. There is no doubt it helps prevent a second stroke but some new studies out of Britain says that giving it to healthy adults doesn’t prevent a first stroke. Your doctor has the final say on this. Don’t start taking A.S.A. without your doctor’s consent.

Sun exposure helps our bodies manufacturer vitamin D. It’s easy to get enough sun in the summer but in winter it is more difficult. All you need is about 15 minutes per day in winter exposing only about 15% of your body. Arms, face and hands is sufficient. ( In summer, we need only 6 minutes exposure.)

New regulations in the U.S. will control what goes into cigarettes. There will be a cap on the amount of nicotine they contain. Other ingredients now used to enhance nicotine absorption into the brain will also be controlled. This bodes well for reducing healthcare costs and the number of smokers too.

The cold and flu season is here again and it’s a good time to remind everyone about acetaminophen and how it is an ingredient in so many cough and cold products. Government agencies are considering reducing the maximum daily dose limits on the drug due to the prevalence of overdosing causing liver problems. New daily maximums are around 2600 mg down from the previous 4000mg.
