Some consumers buy loose herbs and make their own tinctures and water solutions to extract the active ingredients. It is better to buy ready-made tinctures and solutions because these have been calibrated to a labelled concentration. Brewing it yourself, it’s sometimes difficult to get the same strength each time.
Most topical products we buy and keep for a length of time contain a preservative of some kind. One of the oldest known chemical preservatives is benzalkonium chloride. First discovered in 1910, it is used to preserve a variety of products like cosmetics, nasal sprays, lozenges, hair products, deodorants and eye drops. Some people can be allergic to preservatives. There are alternatives and our pharmacists can discuss this with you.
BMI (Body-Mass Index) is the relationship between your height and weight. It’s good to be below 25. As our BMI increases, our longevity decreases. Those with a BMI over 40 can expect an 8-10 year shorter life. If you have access to a computer, you can calculate your own BMI. Go to: www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/
It used to be thought that if you added extra gelatin to your diet, you would improve your nails. Not so. Brittle, splitting nails could be due to the effect of being in and out of water often throughout the day. If you are prone to this type of nail problem, using rubber gloves may prevent the problem.
